About Madison Square Park
Named after President James Madison, Madison Square Park opened to the public in 1847. By the late 19th century, it was considered the centerpiece of one of Manhattan's most prestigious neighborhoods, surrounded by a fast-growing business district. Other Popular neighborhoods include: Flatiron District, West Village, Chelsea, and Garment District.
Today, the park is home to Bridget's Garden, comprised of many colorful trees, flowers and shrubs. There is also a lilac grove, featuring 10 different types of rare yellow lilacs.
Children of all ages enjoy the award-winning playground, which is open year-round from 7 a.m. until dusk. On hot summer days, many of these youngsters take advantage of the sprinkler system and 15 foot water wheel. A supervised arts and craft program and other activities are also provided.
Jeremy's Dog Run, a favorite of neighborhood canines, provides a large open area for dogs to be dogs. No leashes required. This particular location has been named one of New York's top runs, by CBS news.

Visitors can grab a bite to eat at the Shake Shack, which has been a fixture in the park since 2004. Popular menu items include frozen custard, a variety of shakes, Chicago hotdogs, mushroom burgers and much more.
Several free summer concerts are held in Madison Square Park, typically on Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon. Music genres include, but are not limited to, Blues, Folk and Americana.
Conveniently located between Fifth and Madison Avenue, the park is open daily from 6 a.m. until midnight. Union Square Park is also a popular park with similar activities.
